Week long packing for a summer trip

Packing for a week-long warm weather cruise can be exciting but also a little overwhelming if you’re not sure what to bring. The key is to pack smartly, planning for both onboard activities and excursions while keeping your suitcase light and manageable.
Start by focusing on the basics: breathable, lightweight clothing is essential for warm climates. Pack a mix of casual daytime outfits such as shorts, sundresses, t-shirts, and tank tops. Choose fabrics like cotton or linen that will keep you cool. For evenings, many cruise lines have dress codes, so include a few dressier options—such as a simple cocktail dress, a collared shirt with slacks, or a nice maxi dress. At least one “formal night” outfit is recommended if your cruise includes a special evening event.
Swimwear is a must. Bring at least two swimsuits so you always have a dry one available. Also pack a cover-up or sarong, flip-flops for the pool deck, and water shoes if you plan on snorkeling or exploring rocky beaches during excursions. A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen will protect you from the sun, which can be especially intense at sea.
Don’t forget practical essentials. A light sweater or jacket is helpful for cooler evenings or overly air-conditioned indoor spaces. A small daypack or beach bag will be useful for carrying water, towels, and essentials during excursions. Include a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated, and consider packing motion sickness remedies if you’re prone to seasickness. Basic medications, toiletries, and a mini first aid kit should also go into your luggage since items on the ship can be pricey.
Footwear should be versatile: comfortable walking shoes for tours and excursions, sandals for casual onboard activities, and dress shoes for formal evenings. Cruise ship decks can get slippery, so rubber-soled shoes are safest.
Don’t overlook some small but critical items. Bring a few extra chargers and a power strip (without surge protection, as many cruise lines ban surge-protected strips) to accommodate multiple devices. If you plan to take a lot of photos, extra memory cards or portable chargers will come in handy. Finally, remember your travel documents—passport, boarding passes, vaccination records if required, and any reservation details for excursions.
By packing thoughtfully, you’ll have everything you need for a stress-free, fun-filled cruise without lugging around extra baggage. A good rule of thumb: lay everything out before you pack, then eliminate about a third. You'll rarely miss the things you leave behind!
